Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In Stomach After Taking Salty Food

I take a PPI (Prevacid) two to three times a week for heartburn. Lately it seems their efficacy has been reduced, I have a burning sensation in my stomach after consuming caffeine or salty, oily foods. Before retiring I had a small glass of milk to settle my stomach. It usually works but not this time. Tonight after going to bed my vagus nerve is acting up and I am simultaneously very tired and wide awake.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Chronic intake of proton pump inhibitor is known to produce achlorhydria and long terms consequences of stomach problems.

Need additional care of avoiding spices, non-veg, dairy fat, junk foods, salty items and discuss the need of an upper GI endoscopy for final diagnosis with stomach biopsy to rule out recurrent H. Pylori infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
