Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In The Vaginal Area

I am experiencing a burning sensation at the opening of the vagina. It is not a UTI. I am over 50 and I am post menopausal. It is very dry. Also, just under the belly button area is some discomfort. I have been having these symptoms more often than not for the past three weeks. I am using a cream that my gynecologist prescribed. Should I call her office for another exam?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is due to vaginal atrophy that develops around the time of menopause, You can apply estrogen cream for symptomatic relief. You may be having it with you. If the symptoms persist, you can go for hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which shows good results in similar conditions. You can consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
