Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In Throat While Suffering From Acid Reflux

I have acid reflux on and off. However this whole week I've had it constantly and it hasn't gone away when I take gaviscon. It burns in my throat and in between my chest and belly, and also feels very tight to the point where I find it difficult to eat and will feel very nauseous. I can also taste acid in my mouth after I burp or eat. Do I need to go and see my GP?

Hi & Welcome.

The features described in your query are suggestive of acid reflux disease also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Gaviscon tablet is actually an antacid that works by lowering the amount of acid in the stomach is used for immediate relief of pain due to acid reflux or acidity related stomach upset.

However its action is of very short duration.

I would suggest you to take One tablet of Pantoprazole with Domperidone one before breakfast once daily for at least 4-6 weeks for the treatment of acid reflux.
It will not only reduce the pain due to acid reflux but also promote healing on prolonged therapy.
Besides the medication I would like to advise you the following:

1. Avoid alcohol, smoking, coffee, hot n spicy foods, fatty meals, etc.
2. Avoid sleeping immediately after having foods. Wait for at least 2-3 hrs following the meals
3.Take curd, yoghurt or butter mile at night
4. Reduce weight if you are obese
5. Do regular exercise
6. Elevate the head end of your bed.

Hope the suggestions given above could be of great help in getting rid of acid reflux problems.

A feed back is appreciated.
