Suggest Treatment For Calcified Disc Herniation Putting Pressure On The Spinal Cord
My husband has a disc herniation that is calcified and putting pressure on the spinal cord at t9-t10. He saw a surgeon that said it can be easily removed endoscopically. What are the chances the the actual bone is attached to the cord and is it possible for the cord to tear when trying to retrieve the disc
Disc herniation means between two vertebrae there is a soft tissue material called as disc. This disc works a s a cushion and helps absorb the shock. Plus provides protection to nerves which are coming out of spinal cord from the sides of vertebral column. Herniation means the portion of that soft disc projects to the side and pressurizes the nerve root that is coming out of spinal cord. Because of that the nerve gets hurt and there is pain felt in the areas wherever that nerve supplies.
The suggested operation removes the slipped disc and releases the pressure. With that pain will be go away. There is absolutely no problem of affecting the bones in that area. Only the soft tissue of the disc is removed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
