Suggest Treatment For Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

I have had carpal tunnel symptoms for over a year and was diagnosed with it as well. I had a nerve conduction study which came back showing no nerve damage. My doctor wants to surgery to relieve my symptoms. Is that a for sure test for cps surgery or will it still be needed to relieve the symptoms?
