Suggest Treatment For Cavity, Sensitive Area Near Tooth And Discoloration

Hello Dr,

Let me start by saying I have never had any cavities before in my life. For the last 3 weeks i have noticed the in my bottom Right Caine has been very sensitive. I must admit I brush my teeth hard. Towards the root i notice a little discoloration. When I have to rinse, breath in cold air, drink and touch/tap that area it is very sensitive. I also have notice that my gums are reducing. What can i do meanwhile i go see my dentist? What van i do reduce the pain when I rinse my mouth when i brush?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of sensitivity, discoloration and pain in anterior tooth region near canine area which is mainly because of recession of gums in that area due to gingivitis or periodontitis.

Whenever oral hygiene is not proper gingiva got receded and food keeps on depositing and leads to bacterial accumulation as that area is inaccessible to cleaning and it ultimately leads to root surface caries which appear in the form of discoloration.

I would suggest you to visit dentist and get IOPA( X-ray) done to see extent of root caries and then start treatment accordingly. If it is of small size do composite fillings and if it is of large size go for root canal therapy.

Scaling and root planning is the treatment option to prevent gingival recession in that area. Curettage is another option for subgingival cleaning.

Maintain oral hygiene properly by brushing and flossing twice daily and use antimicrobial mouth wash.

Keep a check on diet, avoid citrus fruits.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain sensitivity of teeth along receding gums is a sign of gum infection. The discoloration can be due to deposits over the teeth and when the deposits are not cleaned by the toothbrush as they get calcified and is known as CALCULUS and gets tightly attached to the teeth and the infection proceeds deeper in the gums and cause damage to the gums and the calculus takes its place..

The roots gets exposed to the oral cavity due to receding gums and when anything even air is exposed to it there is sensitivity..

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get professional cleaning known as scaling done to clean all the deposits of teeth and once cleaned the gums can heal and can proliferate and cover the exposed root to some extent...

For sensitivity you can apply desensitizing toothpaste over the exposed tooth and leave for some time and then your teeth brush with it..

Learn proper brushing technique from the dentist and brush your teeth twice daily..

Hope this information helps..
