Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has cellulitis in his jaw and has landed in the hospital in Indiana. How serious is this? He is being treated with an antibiotic, pain meds, and an anti-inflamatory drug. I believe there is a stone that has become infected. Can this be removed? Thank you
General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. H Kay's Response
Hi,
Cellulitis is a serious infection that can rapidly spread and cause cetain significant complications. It is important that your son is being treated in the hospital with antibiotics, pain medication, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
The presence of a stone that has become infected may be contributing to the cellulitis, and if this is the case, it may need to be removed. This would likely be done by an oral surgeon or an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist). Your son's healthcare team will be able to determine if this is necessary and coordinate any necessary procedures.
In addition to the antibiotics and other medications, your son may also need to receive IV fluids and close monitoring while in the hospital. It is important that he follows his healthcare team's instructions closely and takes all medications as prescribed to ensure a speedy recovery.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. H. Kay, General & Family Physician
