Suggest Treatment For Cellulitis

3 days ago I was diagnosed at the hospital with cellulitis. The infection according to the dr is bilateral and it near my tailbone right where my butt starts. Unable to walk or stand or sit for long periods of time and in the worst pain I could imagine, they send me on my way with a steroid an antibiotic and a pain killer. I have been taking everything as prescribed but the swelling is not going down and it s burning when I move. Now my skin is peeling. Am I doing something wrong or is there anything else I can do to help? Thank you

Hi,

Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin and underlying tissue and can be quite painful and serious if not treated promptly and effectively. The treatment for cellulitis generally involves antibiotics to kill the bacteria causing the infection, pain management, and measures to reduce swelling and inflammation.

In your case, it sounds like you have already been prescribed antibiotics, steroids, and pain medication. However, if the swelling is not going down and your skin is peeling, it may be necessary to follow up with your doctor or seek medical attention again. It is possible that the infection is not responding to the current treatment, or that there may be other complications that require further evaluation.

In addition to continuing with the medication prescribed, there are some things you can do at home to help with the symptoms of cellulitis. It is important to rest and elevate the affected area to reduce swelling and to apply warm compresses or take warm baths to help soothe the skin and improve circulation. It is also important to keep the area clean and dry and to avoid scratching or picking at any peeling skin, which can worsen the infection.

Overall, it is important to stay in close communication with your healthcare provider and to seek medical attention again if you are experiencing ongoing pain, swelling, or other concerning symptoms. They may need to adjust your treatment plan or provide additional interventions to help manage your symptoms and promote healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
