Suggest Treatment For Cellulitis

Hi Doctor, my dad has been diagnosed with Cellulitis on his right leg, 2 weeks ago there was redness on the leg with a small lump and within few hours the lump expanded and punctured few days later. He is in the hospital the last 2 weeks and they are treating him with antibiotics thru IV. Fyi the discharge from the punctured lump has been oozing out for almost 10 days and now very minimal and there is dryness/flakes and skin peeling off on his feet but the swelling on his feet till almost knee has not gone down. How long is the recovery process.

Hello,Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. I had gone through all the data posted.
the duration for recovery depends upon
the extent of cellulitis?
the causative microorganism?
any comorbidities like diabetes, using glucocorticoids?
is there any need for debridement?

As you have told there was pus oozing. the treating doctor needs to decid whether he needs debridement or only antibiotics will suffice. that pus needs to be cultured to find the causative organism that helps us to target that organism directly.

so if there is need for debridement the recovery process goes long as there will be need for regular dressings and complete recovery make take month.

if only antibiotics suffice recovery can be expected within 15 days..

Hope this helps..
