Since you are active smoker, we should definitely rule out pleurisy (inflammation of pleura) for your chest pain.
Common causes for pleurisy are
lung infection, bronchitis and
pleural effusion.
So better to
consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is must for the diagnosis of lung infection and effusion.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry much.
Musculoskeletal pain is more likely.
So avoid movements causing pain. Apply warm water pad on affected areas of chest.
Take simple painkiller like
paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Quit smoking as soon as possible because it is not a good habit.
