Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Chronic Lyme Disease And High Cholesterol
I have been treated with supplements for the past year attempting to get my body on track naturally after chronic lyme for at least 4 decades. Symptoms have worsened with menopause and aging to 53. We are getting healthier, but it seems as my liver gets stronger, my cholesterol goes higher. Even the good cholesterol is high now at 90, for a total of 296. This could be another way of lyme masking over the root of the problem, but I am very concerned about this number and the heredity factor. I have been very pleased with my health progress with my DC, but feel I need to seek some answers to this immediately. How dangerous is this and what is the quickest way to lower the count?
There is no recognized medical disorder of chronic lyme since there is currently no clear way to show if the organism is there. Therefore you cannot differentiate between having had the infection and gotten over it, having had the organism and gotten over it and having had this organism produce the scar tissue in joints and nerves it is known to produce.... this would be analogous to having "chronic gunshot" or "chronic tumor operation".
No, on lyme and cholesterol. You can say lyme causes everything, including voting for Donald Trump (they ARE statistically highly correlated!) but it would be wrong.
And, the real question is the importance of the cholesterol. First, get a fasted one. Second, Get a breakdown of all the different subsets of cholesterol (some of the good cholesterol...hdl.. isn't actually good! who jknew ?!?) Third, look at other issues beside cholesterol http://tools.acc.org/ASCVD-Risk-Estimator/ There's your answer.
