Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a cronic UTI. My doctor gave me a RX for Methanam. It is one of many antibiotics I havebeen taking. Anyway, I have had several pains, like fingers, ribs, wrist, etcc. Joint pain. Is this common? My email is YYYY@YYYY . Thank you.
For chronic UTI we generally advise doing a urine culture test. This would tell us about the germ and the appropriate drug. The antibiotics may be right, if it's according to the test but may be needed for a long time.
Joint pain does sometimes occur with UTI called reactive arthritis. Treating UTI may improve the symptoms. You may use paracetamol for the time being. I would also suggest taking Vitamin D and calcium supplements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
