Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation In A Teenager

My friends 13 year old grandson has chronic constipation, having a bowel movement only once every 2 weeks. He has discomfort and occasional diarreah and/or leakage. Any ideas as to what could be causing this. He s seen the family doctor and all that was recommended was Miralax. It s not solving the problem.

Hello

Thank you for posting at HCM.

Having stools just once in two weeks points to a grave intestinal problem, which should not be treated on OPD basis.

You are advised to take him to ER, get a colonoscopy done, until then no drug should be given. He will require a barium enema radiograph to test blockage, and then an enema and gastric flush to clear whatever is left. Then we will have to correct the findings on colonoscopy along with restoration of bacterial flora of his intestine with Enterobion sachets.

Please see a GP immediately

Thanks
