Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, Dr. Narasi. I am hoping to learn the answer to a chronic constipation problem which is affecting a friend of mine and has done so for many years. He tells me that it is hereditary and that he has tried many treatments, including an American preparation called Bekunis - this was supposed to keep most people going to the lavatory for a week (!) but had no effect on him. Have you any further advice to offer please ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Constipation can be managed by little life style modifications. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Include high fiber foods in your diet and avoid refined items like refined wheat flour, fast foods etc. You can use cereal husk with water or milk at night and this will relieve constipation in the morning. Take regular light exercise. If the above mentioned measures do not work, you can consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
