Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Allergy

Hello doctor(s). I ve had a persistent cough, (especially at night), for over 5 days. At first it started of as allergies, which is really weird because I ve nerver had allergies before, and i took zyrtec to relieve my allergies. Allergies went away after a few days. Then after that i started to cough at night nonstop, with a bit of wheezing, stuffed up nose, and now my rib cage (towards the bottom) it has started to hurt. I will go to a doctor asap, if pain doesn t go away in the next few days. In the meantime, what can be recommended to do?? I need help. I hardly get any sleep due to coughing, and i when i wake up, my throat feels sore and dry. I do have a hoarse voice at the moment. *allergies happened about almost 2 weeks ago. The coughing started after allergies went away. And about 2-3 days ago the pain started on a scale of 1-10 landing on a 3.*

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have chronic cough/allergies which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to panic about it. I would suggest you to take cough expectorants along with nasal sprays and do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin in combination with antiallergic medication such as Levocetrizine . Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests to check level on infection and start treatment after proper prescription. You should apply mist humidifiers in room. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
