Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Cold

I ve had a bad cough with phlegm for a couple months. Two weeks ago I saw my dr and he prescribed me an anibiotic for 10 days. I took all of the prescription as directed. In the meantime I got a bad cold. The cold is pretty much gone but the coughing has gotten worse and it hurts to breath. It s like my lungs are on fire. Tonight I started to have a really sore back (mid back). I saw my dr today and he sent me for a chest X-ray but I was too weak to go get it done. I started taking a new 7 day antibiotic today. The sore back wasn t there when I saw him this morning. I m afraid I may have the beginning of an pneumonia.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, antibiotic should only be given when it is infection if this is not the infection then antibiotic will not work at all and your symptoms would be there as it is, as long as the cough is concern most of the time this is due to allergic condition and may not needs any specific treatment, cough suppressant "Dextromethorphan" cough drop can be tried, hope this information helps.
I find this answer helpful
