Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough With Tightness In Chest

Chronic coughing for months. Non-smoker - 65 years old - female - Type 1 Diabetic - post Bronchitis in February 2016, I have a post nasal drip, taking allergy meds and nasal spray (flonaise &/or Nasacort). Coughing is so severe I sometimes feel I will black out , break my ribs and have a heart attack. Chest pain - tightening in frontal chest cavity. Cannot take cough meds as they irritate my sensitive stomach and nauseate me. What can I do. Doctors attribute to allergies, but this is beyond allergies.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

One of the strong reasons for chronic cough in people who take allergy medications regularly is stomach irritation and resulted in to increase in acid content and reflux.

In Some people manifests as reflux and some people have nothing other than chronic dry cough.

Take Tab Pantoprazole early in the morning on a fasting stomach for 2 weeks. Your problem will resolve and if possible stop allergic medications for a while.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
