General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your daughter having chronic cough on inhalers, Doctor says chest is clear, wants to know the probable cause.
The causes can be one of the following:
If inhalers are helping then this may be due to asthma.
Upper respiratory tract infection can cause chronic cough due to irritation in the pharyngeal area instigating or enhancing the coughing sensation.
Anxiety and stress can cause chronic cough.
Allergy to certain allergens.
Since your Doctor has indicated for upper respiratory tract infection I would advise to have a second opinion of an ENT Surgeon for careful ENT examination, getting related tests of blood, X-rays or CT scan.
Special blood tests for allergy.
PFT that is pulmonary function tests.
Trial with oral bronchodilators, steroids.
Once a proper diagnosis is done then the treatment can be specific as per the cause found.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
