Suggest Treatment For Chronic Diarrhea

I was deployed for six months, and in October i started having cronic diarreah. I was told in January that i have high levels of potassium due to my birth control Yasmin, and that it may be the culprit. I have tried EVERYTHING over the counter, changed my diets, from no glucose, no fructose, no lactose, low fiber, high fiber, no fruit etc etc etc and it will not stop. It is has a watery consistancy, most of the time however my food looks when i chew and swallow it, is how it comes out. Please help!!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You may need to consider visiting a gastroenterologist for assessment. A gastroenterologist is a doctor that specialises in conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.

Chronic diarrhea can be due to: (1) irritable bowel syndrome

(2)inflammatory bowel disease- the most common are crohns and ulcerative colitis

(3)infections

(4)endocrine or hormonal disorders

(5)food allergy or sensitivity

(6)side effect of medication

The doctor will likely suggest blood , stool and urine tests to determine the problem.
Imaging of the gastrointestinal tract may also be needed.

I hope this helps
