Suggest Treatment For Chronic Fatigue

Hello. I am a 72 year old male with a 25 year disability for by-polar 2/panic attacks of last year. In spring of last year pain developed in arms legs etc.., I am now diagnosed with FMS. although the pain can be severe nothing is worse than the fatigue. I have always felt that pain can be managed but fatigue can not. I am currently in remission but continue to experience what I believe is fibrofog. What is newest medication that focuses son fatigue?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is one of the difficult diagnosis to make as it is a diagnosis of exclusion.

The fatigue should not be due to: -Medical conditions like chronic illness, thyroid imbalance, anemia etc -Psychological conditions like anxiety, depression or stress Many people do not fully recover from CFS even with treatment.

The usual treatment response is 20-50%. Following steps will help you in treatment:

-Examination of the general physician to rule out medical causes or medicine side effects for fatigue.
-Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): from a nearby psychologist.
-Graded exercise therapy (GET): Start with daily morning walk.
-Activity scheduling: Fix time meals, sleep and wake up.. assign time for some leisure activities.
-Treatment with antidepressants like fluoxetine I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
