Suggest Treatment For Chronic Headache

Hi

My wife has headache:
1. In most cases pain in one side of the head but sometimes in both sides.
2. Generally it starts at early morning just after waking up.
3. Sometime she sleeps while having headache but it continues after waking up.
4. It has been 1+ year. But earlier it was basic once in a month and pain killer used to work. But after marriage it is increased and does happen daily. It has been 3 months of our marriage.
5. Pain does happen in side blood vines.

We visited to Dr and he told that it is migraine. He prescribed Betacap t 40 and Flovite and Naxdom 500

Sometimes Nacdom 500 one Tab does not work.

Now it has been 20 days while having madicine. Earlier it was looking working but now from last 3 days headache starts daily morning and continue whole day.

Please suggest whether it is migraine and is she taking right medicine and how much time it takes to take affect of the medicine?

Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. The brief history of her pain suggest migraine type of headache but detailed evaluation is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Migraine is a vascular type of headache that occur in frontotemporal region of head and is a pulsatile type of headache. The headache occurs in episodes but in some cases it can persist. In most cases prophylactic treatment like PROPRANOLOL can help in control of pain like she has been prescribed Betacap 40. Some patients require proper treatment in form of drugs like Amitryptiline, Nortryptiline, Sodium Valproate etc. These medicines when taken regularly help to control the pain effectively. For control of severe pain medicines like Nexdom can help but her pain is still persisting so in my opinion other drugs like ergots as Sumatriptan can help. The drug when used on SOS basis can help to control severe migraine. Visit her psychiatrist again and discuss about these drugs.

Ask her to avoid tea, coffee or carbonated drinks for some days. While moving out she should wear sunglasses as sunlight is a trigger for migraine. Proper 7-8 hours sleep also help to prevent headache.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
