Suggest Treatment For Chronic Insomnia

I m a 27-year-old woman (5 9 , 175lbs), and suffer from chronic insomnia. Last week, my NP prescribed Trazodone, 50mg at bedtime. After heavy dizziness after the first dosage (which wasn t as sedating as I would ve hoped), I wanted to cut back to 25mg the next day - but I didn t work at all, actually I became nervous and was lying awake. So I took the complete 50mg dosage. That night I had nightmares and was wide awake at 4am. During the following day I had fatigue, and I sneezed a lot. So I wanted to stop taking it. But this didn t work either: I couldn t sit still, had the constant urge to move my arms and legs, my arms were also itchy, and I had an inner feeling of restlesness that was driving me crazy. I also had crying fits. So I took the 50mg again; it took some time until this inner restlesness got better, and I fell eventually asleep, but was awake 4 times. Now I don t know what to do - I feel this restlesness again, it is agonizing, almost painful in a non-painful way, and I don t want to take the Trazodone, but it s getting worse and worse. So my question: I would like to cut back on the Trazodone (25mg), and at the same time take two Unisom Sleepmelts (Diphenhydramine HCl 25mg per tablet). Is that safe (in regard to drug interactions)? And what can I do to make this restlessness-agony go away? I can t stand it, it is a terrible experience and I don t know what to do! Thank you for your time and advice.
