Suggest Treatment For Cirrhosis Of The Liver And Its Adverse Effects

A dear frien, Michel age 66, had liver cancer I have been flown out to New Brunswick from Vancouver March 4th to cook and be caregiver. I am shocked at his condition; Michel was operated on last August to remove the tumor...I was told he got progressively worse since the operation, now very ill with cirrhosis of the liver...extremely frail and rail thin, very bloated hardening stomach, blackening feet (but not swollen), diarreah kicked in last night, lots of gas, eating when he can no salt no alcohol, lots of boost, proteins steamed veg egg toast, many mood swings and lots of sleeplessness odd sleeping hours...had a blood transfusion last Monday and more scheduled weekly. We saw the doctor last week, but she would not commit to a prognosis - his family have quietly told me he is terminal, but there was one diagnosis that he has a 15% chance...so What are the chances knowing some of these details...if possible. I am alone at home with Michel until such time that he goes to the hospital he is a very proud man and basically said he wants to die at home ...it is rather heart wrenching to watch daily but I am committed to making him as comfortable as possible and cooking nutritious meals, anything at his beck and call. Thank you for your time. Diane

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on your description, it is likely, as stated from his family that he is terminal.

Prognosis in cancer would depend on the stage of the disease and response to treatment.
If the cancer is wide spread then the prognosis is poor.

You would have to speak to his doctor to find out his cancer stage.

I hope this helps
