Suggest Treatment For Clicking Sound In Throat While Swallowing?
Dear Doctor, I have been experiencing clicking sound in throat while swallowing saliva in certain head position for the past two weeks. However, I do not feel pain and do not have soar throat and hoarse sound. Could you please suggest me any treatment. Regards, Sabin Chandra Acharya (age 39) Nepal,
I know it is a puzzling symptom for you. There is a tube called the eustachian tube connecting the throat ( Nasopharynx) to the middle ear. Some times the tube gets blocked. It opens when swallowing and produces air movement. This is perceived as a clicking sound in the throat. There is nothing to worry. You can put a nasal drop like otrivin in the nose and take an anti-histmaine tablet to reduce the swelling. It would help the tube remain open and not close and this clicking sound would disappear soon. If you have more doubts you are welcome to ask. Dr. Daisy Noble, Kuwait
