Hello,

You are suffering from chest congestion, coughing and cold since one and a half months. Since you are suffering for more than 3 weeks, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray, CT, MRI, sputum, swab tests, blood work outs done to detect the pathology, you will be accordingly treated. In the meantime, avoid smocking, alcohol, drugs, etc. Stay well hydrated, take adequate amount of water and fluids to thin the mucus inside your throat and lungs.

Keep a humidifier in the room to soothe any lung irritation. Steam inhalation and mucolytics will help relieve congestion. Using saline drops or nasal spray is helpful. Use lozenges to keep your throat moist. Gargle your throat with salt water 2-3times a day.

A combination of lifestyle changes and medications (antibiotics, analgesics, etc.) will help to treat underlying lung condition like bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, COPD, etc. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected/confirmed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
