Hi Dr. Rynne, I have a cold - coughing, sneezing, no fever but this morning I woke up and one of my eyes was stuck shut with mucus. They have been both been weepy all day. Can this be due to the cold? Do I need to go see an eye doctor? Thank you! Jennifer
Based on your description it appears that you could be having inflammation of the pharynx and nasal cavity due to allergy. Also you are experiencing reactive symptoms of the eye. Kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Do salt water gargling with warm water twice daily.
2. Take steam inhalation twice daily to liquify mucous and its easy drainage.
4. Take decongestant medications containing Ambroxol and Chlorpheneramine Maleate with menthol when necessary.
5. Put Moxifloxacin eye drops every 2 hourly for 5 days.
6. Use medicated lozenges to soothen your throat. Eat soft diet and do not consume cold items like cool drinks or ice-creams. Gradually, your symptoms should subside and be back to normal.
Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
