Suggest Treatment For Cold, Cough And Sore Throat In A Child

My 9 year old daughter has a mild cold and was complaining of a headache and sore throat so I gave her some Nurofen, however now she has started coughing and I was wondering if I could give her Dimetapp DM Elixir cough and cold as she cannot get to sleep?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your daughter is suffering from Common cold and is a viral infection..

As far as Dimetapp DM elixir is concerned it is a combination which acts as a cough suppressant containing Brompheniramine Maleate that is an anti allergic and help in relieving cough reflex, dextromethorphan that is a cough suppressant and Pseudoephadrine that is a decongestant..

It can be very much given to relieve cough and congestion and will also help in sleeping..
Along with it gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
Do steam inhalations and use a humidifier in her room...
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Sip on warm water throughout the day..
Sucking throat lozenges can also relieve..
