Suggest Treatment For Cold Sore In Nose Lip And Mouth
Hello, I seem to get a cold sore in or on my nose, sometimes onto the upper lip, once a month. It used to coincide with my period, and now it seems to have moved into the middle of my cycle. This month, however, I think it has lasted quite a long time. I have taken Acyclovir in the past with some success. Do you know the reason they recur in this way? Can I take Acyclovir or another drug as a prophylactic to prevent them? Thanks for your help!
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain cold sores caused by Herpes Simplex Virus is a contagious and recurring infection as the virus are always present in dormant state in the nerves as well as the surface of skin in small numbers once a person is exposed to the infection.. As soon as the body's resistance becomes low and in case of females during and around the menstruation there can be an outbreak..
Anti-viral drugs are commonly started when there is an infection outbreak and they cannot cure the active infection but can reduce the frequency of recurrences..
So you should start Acyclovir therapy when there is an outbreak of infection and should be done only under supervision of your treating physician..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
