Suggest Treatment For Cold Sores On The Mouth Of A Child

my 14 year old daughter has cold sores on her mouth - She has had them before, but these are 3 separate clusters and are continuing down her lip-
1. Should I be concerned that something else other than a cold sore could be happening?
2. What (other than abbreva) can she use to relieve the symptoms?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your daughter is having an outbreak of cold sores only and three different clusters can occur when there is an aggressive outbreak..
I would therefore suggest you to not alone rely on Abreva that is a non prescription topical medication used on cold sores but you need to consult an Infectious Medicine Specialist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Viral culture, antigen and antibody reaction can help in diagnosis..
She can be advised to take oral antiviral medications like Acyclovr, Famicyclovir, Valacyclovir etc..
Topical antiviral ointment can also be advised..
Keep her belongings separate like Napkins, towels, utensis etc to prevent transmission of infection to others..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
