Suggest Treatment For Congestive Heart Failure

my brother got sick with a common cold .he didn t go to the doctor and about a month later he was in such bad pain and couldn t hardly move, so my mom took him to the E.R . they were gonna release him with the diagnosis of heart burn, acid indigestion, the nurse just coming on shift came in to do a last set of vitals and automatically requested the doctor do a E.K.G the E.K.G came back bad so they did further testing and revealed he was suffering from congestive heart failure ,,,, he stayed in the hospital almost a week they are telling him his heart is to damaged from the virus and he will need a new one ... he is only 25y old ,they accused him of being a drug addict and told him if he was he wouldn t be eligible for a new heart , they sent my brother home and my parents are watching him his kids and his wife works nights he is still in bad pain cant breath ,is very lethargic . he seems very stressed and irritable I feel bad I don t think he is getting the proper treatment I m scared and I know he is to what do we do for him ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello there
I understand your concern
the cornerstone of CCHF are aceinhibitors and diuretics and he can be controlled with that
I'm sure his coronaries are fine so he wont require nitrates .
I feel the prognosis is fair and may improve with time

hope all turns out well
