My husband is 71 and now it appears has a very severe case of pinkeye in both eyes. This came on at the same time a viral lung infection with cough did. we went to the dr. for the lung problem and he is on an antibiotic, even though the dr. thought it is viral. we are using soft warm cloths for the discharge. what else should I do? at his age, is this quite serious? Thanks, Bonnie
Hello dear I understand your concern Do not worry it is not serious bu you have to take proper treatment. Pink eye or conjunctivitis is mainly due to bacterial infections. Maintain proper hygiene As a treating physician I will treat conjunctivitis as below: Antibiotic eye drops: fusidic acid plus tobramycin Put eye drops as frequently as once in a hour. Avoiding close contact with others and use separate handker chiefs, towels, bed sheets. It will help to prevent spread of infection to others. Tablet Monteleukast tab once a day, Put lubricating tear/artificial teat drop. So consult the ophthalmologist and take proper prescribed drug. Hope this may help you
