Just to let you know I have been previously diagnosed with cough variant asthma. On Friday night I started coughing and did a breathing treatment with a steroid and another drug that gets rid of inflamation. I did not sleep at all that night and I woke up Saturday morning and did a breathing treatment. I kept coughing throughout the day and did three more breathing treatments, used my inhaler about 20 times, and took a perscription and over the counter cough medicine. I continued to get worse, not better. I was also running a fever and had horrible body aches. On Sunday morning, I woke up, did a breathing treatment, and went to Care Now. They said I had asthmatic bronchitis and reactive airway disease. They gave me a cortisone shot and an antibiotic. My oxygen levels were normal however on the peak flow test, I was only 50% of what I needed to be so they did a breathing treatment on the spot. Also, my blood pressure was higher than normal. That afternoon I was much better but by that night, I got bad again. I did not sleep at all last night. My heart was racing and I could not breath laying down. I would also get dizzy if I stood up. I got up this morning and did a breathing treatment. My mom suggested that I go to another doctor, so I got an appointment. He listened to my lungs and he said they sounded fine but he did a breathing treatment on the spot just in case. My oxygen levels after the breathing treatment improved greatly. He said that because I was feeling so bad, he would do a chest x-ray just in case. That was late this morning and he still hasn t called with the results. Since then, I have gotten much worse even though I am following all of my doctor s orders. I can barely get a word in between coughs and I am having trouble breathing. Do you recommend that I go to the emergency room?
