Hi.
I have gone through your query.

There are 2 possible reasons for feeling excessive sleepiness post surgery. This may be seen with increased glucose levels or reduced glucose levels. One may also notice this as a post anesthetic side effect.

In case the glucose levels are not in control, where they are either raised or lowered, one may feel drowsy. This can also be seen when one is on medication for diabetes as they can lower the blood glucose.
Getting checked up and checking the blood glucose levels often can help. This would help the doctor adjust the doses so that there are no hypoglycemic episodes.

Anesthesia that is used for any surgery can cause post surgery drowsiness. This may take a few days or a week to resolve. In case the symptoms are persisting, seeing a doctor to confirm if the anesthesia effects are still showing. The doctor may then suggest medications to help reduce the side effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
