Suggest Treatment For Constant Pain In The Chest

i am a 53 year old female. I am having chest pains. About an annoying 5 on the scale, but goes as high as about 7 or 8. A few days ago I took my mother to a casino in WV. It was very smoky. I could barely stand it. I convinced mom to leave after an hour. However since then, I have been having chest pains and feeling crappy. I am still able to do chores, but am now having problems swallowing. To make matters more complicated, about five months ago, I had rotator cuff surgery and repair of a torn muscle in right arm. I am in constant chronic pain. I do not take any pain meds, except occasionally an ibuprofen. I stopped because it seemed to disturb my stomach.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the chest pain is not related to physical activities (it is not worse when you walk, climb stairs or any exercise) then you may use Omeprazole 40 mg 30 minutes before breakfast.
Probably you are having gastritis and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) due to ibuprofen use and passive smoking. Meanwhile, try to take frequent small meals and avoid food or fluids 4 hours before bedtime.

If you are not better in 3-4 days, you notice any worsening, or the pain is related to exercise you will need to have a visit with your doctor and have your heart and lungs examined.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
