Suggest Treatment For Constant Pain Under The Ribs And Back

Im experenceing a rather sharp pain located just under my ribs on my right side in the back. Im 64 and fairly active working my fishing boat. I don t recall any fall or twist. The pain started yesterday and is getting worse. Now a deep breath really hurts. A non medical friend postulated a kidney stone which is something I am just trying to look up.

Hi,

Noted the history about a 64 years old male, working on self fishing boat not remembering any twist or trauma yet getting a sharp pain on the right side under the ribs on back part, deep breathing hurts more.
The commonest causes I can think about are one of the following:
Prolapsed disc at back causing neurological problems.
Possible Herpes or Shingles, watch for the rash which may develop within a few days.
Kidney stone as one of your non-medical friend suggested.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation.
Ultrasonography of abdomen for kidney stones.
MRI of spine for discs, compressed fracture of vertebrae and so on.
Neurological evaluation.
Once a diagnosis is made it will be easy to have proper management as per the cause.
