Suggest Treatment For Constipation During Menopause

Hello, I have has very bad constipation for over 2 months. My doctor has run multiple tests, endoscopy, MRI, blood work and have seen an endocrinologist and has found no cause for this although I have been diagnosed with a fatty liver. I am a woman 59 years, Caucasian, past menopause and had a colonoscopy with the last year. I may be 10-15 pounds overweight. Can you suggest any other tests that might shed some light on this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain constipation needs not to be always due to some serious underlying illness and it can be due to a number of other causes like suddenchange in dietary habits, taking lots of dairy products, sedantary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, laxative abuse, lack of fibres in diet, dehydration, stress etc..
I would suggest you to drink plenty of warm water throughout the day..
You should take high fibres in diet like eat raw fruits and salads, take more of cereals..
You can also take fibre supplements like Psyllium and Lactulose..
You can also take stool softeners like Docusate..
Do moderate workout, go for walks and also drink plenty of water..
Limit intake of tea, coffee and frizzy drinks, rather prefer water..
Do not skip meals and eat small portions of food every 2 hours..
Go to washroom everyday same time in morning as it can help to regularize your bowels although you would not succeed initially but try developing a habit..
You can also be advised prescription drugs like Linclotide and lubiprostone..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
