Suggest Treatment For Constipation In A Person With Quadriplegia

My husband has a hypoxic brain injury causing quadraplegia. In January he had a twisted bowel corrected with a tube in his nose. He has not had a bowel movement in 5 weeks. He has pain and fever off and on. He is on a stool softener. His primary doctor is out of town. Is this something he should be seen for at the emergency room?
