Suggest Treatment For Constipation

Hello I am concerned about my 12 yr old son. He does nt eat much food and is Iron deficiant over the past 3 yrs. Our Pediatrician put him on Iron Pills & I am doing my best to feed him Iron based food - red meat, spinach, etc. He has a bowel movement about every 3 days and it is extremely large and hard. Do I need to take him to a pediatric specialist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to constipation. I suggest giving him an over the counter laxative option such as Miralax. I also suggest giving liquids and a fiber rich diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
