Suggest Treatment For Cough And Redness In The Throat While Recovering From Bronchitis

I was on antibiotics 2 weeks ago for bronchitis. I am not coughing as much now, just have a lingering cough, but my throat is red and it hurts to swallow. Also the glands arw tender to the touch. It is just one side that hurts. What could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It could be viral influenza upper respiratory tract infection. As despite antibiotic cough is present you can be investigated by CBC, Auscultation and throat swab. If cough increasing and if your local area where you are living having history of any case of flu than PCR like blood or swab test can be done and accordingly oseltamivir like antiviral drug needed. Salt water gargle done two times a day. Use hot water for soothing. Avoid excess spicy foods. Drink more water and fruits more If needed diluted Betardine gargle can be prescribed.

Consult physician for examination and according to examination further treatment will be given by your physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
