Suggest Treatment For Cough, Chest Congestion And Runny Nose

My 4 yr old son has had a cough the past 4 days. I can hear the congestion in his chest and nose and besides the cough he also has a runny nose. He s still running around, playing and acting like his normal self cept when he s laughing you can hear the congestion in it. Kind of sounds like a bronchitis cough. Don t think he has been eating quite as much as he normally does, but he just sounds horrible when he coughs and I ve been giving him an over the counter medicine but doesn t seem to be doing much.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cough, chest congestion and runny nose is because of lung Infection and bronchitis. It could be due to sever sinusitis as well. I would suggest you to take pseudoepharine containing medicines for congestion but should be taken only after consultation with your doctor. Do warm saline gargles. Take throat lozanges. I would suggest you to maintain hydration level of first of all. Take plenty of fluids to child. Give combination of anti allergic such as cetrizine and saline nasal decongestants. You should visit pulmonogist once and get it examined clinically. Go for chest X-ray to rule out condition clinically. You have to get pulmonary functions tests checked. You should take combination of antibiotics, inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take steam inhalation as well. Sip on warm water on frequent basis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
