Suggest Treatment For Cough With Expectoration In COPD Patient

My father is 78. He is taking clopidagril as he had a stent put in last year. He also inhales albuterol sulfate and ipratropium bromide. He has COPD. His trouble is thick mucus and expectorating. Can he take a 400-800 mg. Mucinex DM OR guaifenesin only several times per day? I haven t seen any drug interactions on line at Dr. websites. He is in above average health considering the COPD and has no other conditions which require medication.

Thanks for your question on HCM.
COPD ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ) needs simultaneous implement of following treatment methods for better symptomatic control.
1. Quit smoking if he is smoker.
2. Continue his inhaler according to the advice given by his doctor.
3. Enroll in pulmonary rehabilitation center where Chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercise Are done.
4. Take adult respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and influenza vaccines for prevention of future lung infection.
And yes you can definitely give him mucinac or gunaphesin as both are expectorant and mucolytic.
But better to start pulmonary rehabilitation.
This will help him more.
