Suggest Treatment For Cough With Throat And Chest Pain

I am 60 years old went to the pcp today with fever 100.6, sore throat, white stuff on my tonsils and a terrible cough. He did a strep test that was negative and a script for Bromfed DM syrup. It is not helping the cough at all. Did I waste my money, $29, for the medicine? What can I do to calm this cough. I ve went through over 1/2 box of tissue coughing up gunk from my lungs. My head, throat and chest hurt.

Dear welcome to hcm. You need to take a course of antibiotic too, as your findings suggest infection in throat. Penicillin group is effective in throat infection if you are not allergic to it. Macrolide group of antibiotics can also be taken.

You have not wasted money. An expectorant cough syrup is always required in throat infection for faster and smooth recovery. Do warm saline gargles also. You can take analgesic like paracetamol for relief from soreness in throat.
