Suggest Treatment For Cough

have had a cough for over a week, cant sleep laying down. cant sleep longer than 2 hours have been taking otc exp. have been on zyrtec for months alredy. albuterol inhaler prn helps slightly, coughing up clear frothy when cough its coughing fits I am a rn so, worst patient ever. . .

Acute onset of persistent coughing is most commonly related to an acute infection such as the common cold or flu.
If you are asthmatic then it may indicate an acute asthmatic attack and you may need to be evaluated by your doctor.

The use of a mucolytic may help to relieve some of your symptoms since the cough is productive.
This is medication that can help to break up mucus in the chest.
