Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
MY 86 year old mom went to the doctor s office after a few days of coughing and feeling weak. She was told that she had congestive heart failure. After waiting for hours in the emergency room to be admitted to the hospital, the er doctor took x-rays and says she also now has a collapsed lung. They are now admitting her to the hospital. I am trying to assess what all of this mean and the seriousness of having these ailments. Her doctor made it sound like the hospital visit would entail getting a medication intravenously to get rid of the fluid around her heart and she would be ok.
Heart failure is when heart pumping power is weaker than normal. As result the kidneys may cause the body to retain fluid and salt that builds up in the arms ,legs, ankles, lungs and other organs .There are treatment options that primarily decrease the disease progression to lessen symptoms and improve quality of life.
