Suggest Treatment For Cramped Muscle In Throat Which Causes Swallowing Difficulty

I've tried WebMD to no avail. I have a cramped muscle in my throat on the left side. When it happens (4th time lst night-separated by 2 months) I can breath but can not swallow and it's extremely painful. It's basically a Charlie's horse. I just keep breathing deep until it's gone. Advice?

hello, thanks for query, there is no specific muscle go for spasm in throat. it could be due to parkinson, post polio, multiple sclerosis, achalasia cardia ( failure of sphincter to relax). or diffuse esophageal spasm(spasm of walls of lower segment of esopagus).if it is spersistent , u need to be evaluated by endoscopy, barium studies. kindly visit gastroenterologist for expert opinion. all the best. take care.
