Suggest Treatment For Cramps Post Mirena IUD Placement

hi i have a question regarding the mirena iud. i got mine inserted about 2 months ago and he told me to come back in 3 months for a follow up checkup. i have had bad cramping, which i take advil for as he advised. i often have trouble finding the strings and when i do theyre off to the side. i am still bleeding which he said i would bleed for about 3 months however today it feels as though the bleeding is heavier and the inside of my vagina seems swollen its felt that way for a few weeks now, does this call for a trip to the er? is this all normal?

Hi,

You are likely to have these symptoms because MIRENA has a life of 5 years and may be hormonal fluctuation occurring.

You need to get examined for the possibility of displaced MIRENA or pelvic inflammatory disease.

Consult a gynecologist and get investigated accordingly(USG and urine examination).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
