hello concerned patient and thanks for writing to HCM.

i have read your query and understand your concern is regarding the ganglion cyst removal surgery you are going to undertake.

First of all let me tell you ,for any surgery its possible to have complications, same is the case with the cyst removal

But from what i have seen and experienced the complications rate in ganglion cyst removal are like 1-3% or even below which is very minimal

So i would advise to not worry a great deal about it.

As you might have been made aware by the doctor,it can be done as a day surgery under local/general anaesthesia and most cases your doctor will send you home the evening itself

you have not mentioned whether the doctor has suggested open or arthroscopic procedure for you

from my experience, the complications if any occuring are infection, decreased mobility and rare incidence of damage to neurovascular bundle in the wrist.

All of this can be avoided ,at the hands of an experienced surgeon and if you give proper care as per the doctors advise

if i were your treating doctor,i would put on strong antibiotic coverage like amoxicillin and clavulanic acid or cefixime to prevent infection, and advise early mobilisation to prevent stiffness.

So basically relax,go through with surgery and do as advised and continue taking treatment of osteoarthritis as prescribed.take a well balanced diet

Hope this clarifies your doubt and it helps
Follow up if needed.
Good day and wish you a swift safe recovery
