Suggest Treatment For Deep Wound On Thumb After Cutting A Large Chunk Out By Accident

Earlier this morning a family member cut a large chunk out of his thumb about the size of a jelly bean. I cleaned the wound and wrapped it in gauze to help stop the bleeding. Just recently I replaced his bandages and took a closer look at the wound. It's very deep and I could see a dark red dot and a lighter dot in the wound. He refuses to see a doctor, what steps can I take to ensure the wound doesn't have exposed bone or a vessel that won't properly close?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
There is no alternative to going to hospital.
He must visit a hospital as early as possible, get an X ray done to look for any fracture and then get it assessed and then sutured,if necessary.
Thanks
