I had laproscopic gallbladder surgery on April 10. I was due to get my period April 26, and am now a week late. I am never late. I have taken two home pregnancy tests. I talked to my surgeon and he said that it shouldn t effect my cycle. I have been off of birth control for six months and haven t been late since my body got regulated after going off of the pill.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Delayed periods can be due to pregnancy or any hormonal disturbances like hypothyroidism, hyperprolactemia or polycystic ovarian disease. Gall bladder surgery do not have any effect on the menstrual cycle.
Birth control pills will not have any effect on the menstrual cycle after six months of stopping.
Since you have negative urine pregnancy test, Pregnancy is ruled out.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated including hormonal profile and ultrasound and get appropriate treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
