Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have 1 45 yearold son living with me after the death of my husband. My son suffers severe depression but will accept no help, or suggestions from me. This has ben the case for many years. He is very intelligent and capable in several areas but will seek no job.I am trying once again to get him to use some services from Victoria disabilities in Fort Street- a program where he might work in a job and have the opportunity of counsellor advice almost every day.I have met the supervisor and tried to encourage him to visit her for discussion. he constantly ignores it apart from a sign that he has heard. That is all I can say at the moment. If you would kindly comment on this situation it would help!!! Thankyou,Christine
I went through your details. I can understand your emotions. I am sorry to say that depressive disorder patients are almost always like that. They refuse to accept they have any problem and refuse any help. They live in their own world. Of course, motivation is the key in their rehabilitation, as you must have known by now, he cannot be completely cured from his depression. Please do not try to advise him, at least from now. Motivate him and appreciate him for even small tasks done and then give small responsibilities. He will accept them. Change happens slowly. Be patient. you take care and be away from stressful thoughts.
